Der Energiesektor steht im Zentrum der Dekarbonisierungsstrategie der EU und ist einer der am detailliertesten geregelten Sektoren der Taxonomie. Mit 15 taxonomiefähigen Tätigkeiten umfasst er die gesamte Energiewertschöpfungskette, von der Erzeugung über Übertragung und Verteilung bis hin zur Speicherung.
Erfasst werden erneuerbare Energiequellen wie Solar-PV, Onshore- und Offshore-Wind, Wasserkraft und Geothermie ebenso wie ermöglichende Infrastruktur wie Stromnetze, Fernwärmenetze und Batteriespeicher. Die anwendbaren Tätigkeitskriterien legen die Schwellenwerte für Lebenszyklusemissionen der Stromerzeugung und die jeweiligen Bedingungen fest; für den aktuellen Wortlaut ist der offizielle Aktivitätsdatensatz maßgeblich.
Anpassungsanforderungen für Energieinfrastruktur sind tätigkeitsspezifisch. Wenn die anwendbaren Kriterien auf Anhang A verweisen, sollten Betreiber eine verhältnismäßige Bewertung wesentlicher physischer Risiken und Anpassungslösungen dokumentieren; der jeweilige Aktivitätsdatensatz bestimmt den Umfang.
